The (OUMA) is reimagining how visitors experience its permanent collection with “,” a new exhibition designed for visitor participation.听
Curated by Courtney Christy, OUMA collections manager and registrar, the exhibition features more than 30 works of art spanning a wide range of media, styles and time periods, all thoughtfully paired around similar themes. Rather than presenting works in isolation, the exhibition invites visitors to think critically about the conversations the artworks are having with one another.听
There are also several activities visitors can participate in, such as writing their thoughts on blackboards and sitting in meditation spaces to reflect on the art.
“Art doesn’t have to be a one-sided conversation. We invite visitors to join the dialogue and share their observations,” says Christy. “Leave a note in our thoughts basket, sketch a drawing for the mini-gallery alcove or engage via social media. While art can speak for itself, magic happens when you answer back.”
The exhibition also embodies 91影视’s larger academic mission to create dialogue in the classroom through the Core. The intentionally designed program challenges students to think critically and encourages productive conversations.听
The museum has partnered with the Core program through other initiatives like as the Core Self, an annual multimedia student exhibition that celebrates diversity and personal identities.
